Aboriginal for a Day Incursion
Today, all of SYPS celebrated our Aboriginal for a Day incursion. We have learnt a lot about the indigenous people and culture of Australia.
Firstly, we had our faces painted. The design (see above) represents “everyone together”
Every student had their face painted the same to show that we would enjoy the day together and involve ourselves in the learning activities.
We learnt about Aboriginal art and symbols, traditional tribal dances and listened to some dreamtime stories! It was lots of fun! One of our highlights was listening to Azza play the didjeridu (at times spelt didgeridoo). Another name for the didjeridu is ydakii which means “noisy stick”

Indira created a voice thread to share what she had learnt today. Have a listen:

3/4AC’s Cricket Lesson
Today 3/4AC had different teachers for P.E. Their names were Lee and Muddy. Muddy was from Manchester in England and plays professional cricket.
We learnt about some cricket skills. Some were how to catch a cricket ball and other skills involved how to bat. To catch you had to make your hands into a cup, keep your eyes on the ball and follow it through with your hands (until it, the ball, fell into your hands).
To bat you had to step, swing, hit. Step towards the ball. Swing your bat. Hit the ball.
We played a game called Rapid Fire. Four people at a time hit the the ball and the rest of us had to field. You couldn’t move your feet if you were fielding until all the balls had been hit. It was great to work on our batting skills.
The batting team that made the fielders take the longest amount of time to put all 12 balls back where they were, won. The most time taken was 26 seconds!
At the end of our lesson we all got some Milo. Thanks Lee and Muddy. We will continue to work on our cricket skills.

Writing A Procedural Text (Instructions)
The 3/4 students have been learning to write instructions. We discussed the importance of providing clear, specific, succinct procedures so that our intended audience clearly understood what to do to complete a task.
Here are some things we noticed with procedural texts:
– instructions have a title explaining the purpose of the procedure with all of the important words having capitals (no full stop)
– instructions have a list of ingredients or things that are needed in order to be able to complete a task using bullet points like a list
– each new instruction begins with an action verb (a command) and on a new line to make the steps easy to follow
– pictures and illustrations help to make instructions clearer and easier to follow
– procedures are written in the present tense
Here is one we made today. (Click the link below)

Weird Word of the Week “ludicrous”
This is 3/4AC’s third Weird Word of the Week! We had fun brainstorming, storyboarding, filming and editing our understanding of the word, ludicrous. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did! We’d love to know your thoughts. Feel free to leave us a comment… or two.

Cinquain Poetry
We have been learning to write Cinquain (pronounced “sin cain”).
A cinquain is a five-line poem that describes a person, place or thing.
Beans. a one-word title (noun)
Green, long. two adjectives
Eating, chewing, swallowing. three -ing participles (verbs)
I really love them. a phrase
Food. a synonym for your title (another noun)
We drafted our own Cinquain poems and then published them by using images free for use. We also used QRVoice to publish our poems using a QR Code. Check them out!
You can download a QR Code reader from here: Scan
Happy reading (or listening).
We’d love to know what you think!
